Care from all sectors of society needed urgently for 763 leftover children in Yiwu

Up to now，there are 763 leftover children in Yiwu，mainly at economically advanced towns in Yiwu，such as Dachen，Niansanli and Suxi . With the rapid urbanization in Yiwu，left-behind kids appear as a new social group，which refers to children under 18 years old，who have been left behind at home more than 6 months in a year when their parents migrate to other cities in search of work . Recently，a special research on leftover children was made by Yiwu Women’s Federation and Yiwu Bureau of Education . The research shows there are totally 763 leftover children in Yiwu . Among guardians to these children，grandparents make the biggest contribution that 616 leftover boys and girls are taken care of by their grandparents，115 by their uncles and aunts or collateral relatives，and some by their teachers or even by the children themselves.
There are lots of problems confronting these children：they are under no good care in daily life，no guidance in behavior and no tutors in their afterclass study .
Headed jointly by Yiwu Women’s Federation，Yiwu Bureau of Education，the Youth League Committee and Yiwu Committee on Care for Children，there has been an Acting Mother activity launched through the whole city to show solicitude for these leftover kids and help them grow up healthily . Thirteen Acting Mothers have been assigned as the first group on the post . These “mothers”not only keep in touch with the leftover children，but also get close contact with their teachers and guardians . They play the part as the insider for their life，the guider for their study and the protector for their growth . Learned from some Acting Mothers，the reporter knows that they communicate with their leftover children through different channels：some of them write letters regularly to their children，some pick up the children to their homes on weekends，and some even go and meet teachers at school for how their children are getting along with their study ……
