Shenshou Temple ：an ideal summer resort for the elderly

Speaking of temples in Yiwu，Shuanglin Temple in Fotang is well-known to all Yiwu people，but another one named Shenshou Temple，which has a history of more than one thousand years，may be strange to many young people，so its origin and attractive scene are of course unknown to them，let alone its ideal function as a place for summer leisure. Located at Folong mountainside in Xiayan，Chengxi Subdistrict，Shenshou Temple i s about 2 0 km away from downtown Yiwu . With about ten minutes ’car journey ，Shenshou Temple suddenly appeared out of the green mountain . I t’s said that the temple was built in Tang dynasty . It was used to be a tranquil resort with clear brooks，odd-shaped stones，dried pine roots and gr e en mo s s ，where Song Lian ，Fang Xiaosu and other famous scholars of Tang dynasty used to wri te books or gave lectures . As time passed ，Shenshou Temple was dismant led and rebui l t for several times . The present temple with four joss houses and a nine-storied stupa was built a couple of years ago . Now historic sites as Shenshou temple stele，stone carved Buddhist arhat ，stone carving chair and Bairu spring still exist in the temple . The biggest wonder is the ancient arhatpine tree behind the temple which was reborn after its death .

With its beautiful scenes of mountains and water，Shengshou Temple is also an ideal summer resort with a geographic advantage . The warden of Shengshou Temple tells that there are more than thirty long-term residents who live after-retirement life here . And there are also 84 guests--who want to escape summer heat，staying in the temple for a couple of days or a month .

I am chatting wi th the warden when the distant sound of drum beats comes into my ears . I turn to the place where the sound comes from and find half-dozen elders sitting around and enjoying huagu folk dance in a pavi lion . I t may remind me of an activity organized by elders ’union，but in fact it is a self-entertainment of some old people who come here for summer leisure . Grandma Wu is among them. She l i ves i n Shengli Community and comes here for spending summer days，because she can’t stand the high temperature downtown and is not used to the air-conditioner . The air is fresh and cool here，she says . Although it’s hot outside in daytime，it’s cool indoors，particularly in the pavilion beside a stream and surrounded by trees . You will feel delighted in the cool breeze . The air here is healthier to old people than that in an airconditioned room.

“The water here is very good，even better than mineral water . Many people who live in the city come here to collect water home with buckets . “The water here comes from the mountain，so it is unpolluted. The long life of those retired elders is closely related to the water here . ”An elder who lives in Shengshou Temple for a long time offers his introduction with smiles .

Little migrants fly to Yiwu to enjoy summer vacation Ⅰ

When the summer vacation comes，there is a group of children，who，driven by the fami lial affection ，travel from hometown to Yiwu just for a short period of t ime that they can enjoy together with their parents working in the city. They are called the city’s “li ttle migrants”，a simile term that compares them to migratory bi rds . Although those “little migrants” can come to reunite with parents，the totally new environment and little time from their parents to look after them are big problems . Besides，the safety of the children of rural laborers during the summer vacation has become a worry as well .

　　I n every summer vacation since 2 0 0 5 ，Goldensun Group in Yiwu ’s Dachen Town finds a place，employs a teacher and sets up a temporary baby class for the rural laborers’ children .

　　“We plan to make thi s summer class a regular baby class with professional teachers for baby education，because some of them even need to have kinde rga r ten educ a ti on in Dachen Town，” said Wu Liangfeng，Chairman of Labor Union of Jiaoli Hosiery attached to Jinwu Group，when introducing the developing history of the baby class excitedly .

Yiwu’s exhibition economy grows rapidly in 1st half year

It is learned from the Meihu Exhibition Center that there were 21 exhibitions in the first half of 2007, of which 8 were scaled over 10，000 square meters .

There were six more exhibitions in the first half of this year than that of corresponding period of last year，i . e . an increase of 4 0% . The exhi bi tion covered a total area of 870，000 square meters . The turnover of the second cultural industry fair was 1，75 billion yuan with 60% from foreign turnover，which became the only foreign-oriented exhibit ion in national cultural and sports indus try and ranked top in national cultural industry exhibitions in the area of exhibition，the number of exhibition booths and the number of participating enterprises . The Fourth China International Hardware & Electrical Appliance Fair became the leader of hardware exhibitions in China with 1026 booths and 0 . 985 billion yuan turnover .

It is learned that some famous exhibitions and new ones with potentials were introduced to Meihu Exhibition Center in the first half year such as glasses，auto parts，and electric motor cars / motorcycles exhibitions . In March this year Yiwu was granted to hold exhibitions overseas，which was the first time for a county-level city . Now the relevant departments are preparing for the overseas exhibition which will be a good opportunity for Yiwu to develop exhibition industry in full swing .

Inspection and quarantine logos necessary for export food since Sept .1

It is learned from Yiwu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that the inspection and quarantine logos must be put on export food from September 1 this year . Zhejiang Inspection and Quarantine Bureau will issue and distribute the specific executive regulations on the seal of the inspection and quarantine logos to inspection and quarantine branches in Zhejiang . Yiwu Inspection and Quaran tine Bureau reminds food manufacturers to strictly execute the new regulations for smooth export .

All foods that have passed the inspection and quarantine of entry-exit inspection and quarantine agencies should bear the manufacturer’s name，health registration number，product name，batch number and producing date on the packages for transport and be sealed with the inspection and quarantine logos .The export foods are required to bear inspection and quarantine logos including marine products，birds and beasts，meats of wild animals and its products，sausage casing，eggs and its products，edible animal fat，and other foods with animal materials，rice，beans，vegetables and its products ，flour and grain produc ts ，preserved foods，peanuts，teas，coconuts，coffee beans，wheat germ，hops，sun-flower seeds，nuts，vegetable oil，rapeseeds ，flavour ings ，milk and its products，health foods，wine ，canned foods，drinks，candy and chocolates，cakes and biscui ts，preserved fruits，honey products，quick-freeze foods and food additives .

Besides，if any food listed above has a sale package，an inspection and quarantine logo is necessary . As for loose foods and foods in bulk shipment，logos are not required.

Foreigner’s application for working permit to be handled in Yiwu

It is learned from the meeting of “Management of foreigners who intend to work in China” held on July 11 in Yiwu that from July 16 foreigner’s application for employment license can behand led in Yiwu . All the procedure s will be completed in
Yiwu. It is confirmed that Yiwu is the first county-level city authorized to handle foreigners’employment affairs .

According to related regulations，foreigners who want to work in China must obtain “working permit”. Any foreigner working in China without “working permit” will be deemed as illegal employee and will be punished by Public Security Bureau . According to statistics，in the first half of this year，Yiwu handled the registration of working permit for 607 people from 37 countries .

In accordance with“Notice to Enlarge Certain Powers of Yiwu for Economic and Social Administration ” issued by the administrative office of Zhejiang provincial government and the actuality that a large number of foreigners are employed in Yiwu ，the provincial department of labour and social security decided to transfer the power of managing foreigners’employment in Zhejiang province . As from July 16 ，Yiwu is able to accept reigners’application for employment permit，to issue Alien Employment License of PRC ，foreigner’s Work Permit of PRC，and to supervise the employers who employ foreigners and foreign employees who work in Yiwu .

Toy designer training base to be set up in Yiwu

In order to make the local brands more competitive with increased added value，Yiwu’s toy industry is aiming to promote itself by taking the lead in toy design . To establish Yiwu as the toy design center in China，Yiwu Toy Trade Association is
planning to set up its own toy designer training base .

Presently，there are seven toy designer training bases in China . Yiwu Toy Trade Association has submitted its application for construction of Yiwu base and is now in preparation for it . As is planned，the base will turn out some 1000 toy designers for Yiwu toy companies in 3 to 5 years，thus making Yiwu toy industry superior to its peers in design and R&D，and increasing the added value of Yiwu’s toys.

It is learned that toy designing is a new occupation included in the official list of occupations publicized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security in 2005，according to which，a toy designer is an intelligence- based talent and is subject to

Flight schedule adjusted in Yiwu Airport，more flights to Shenzhen

Some changes have been made to flight schedules of Yiwu Airport . From July 9 to July 15 ，there will be more flights from Yiwu to Shenzhen . On the other hand ，Si chuan Airlines temporarily canceled the flight 3U8729/3U8730 from Yiwu to Chengdu via Changsha，and Shantou Branch of Southern Airlines changed flights number and schedule from Yiwu to Beijing and to Guangzhou .

Flight ZH9521 will travel from Yiwu to Shenzhen via Nantong every day except Friday. It takes off from Yiwu at 18 ：45 on Monday，Tuesday，Wednesday and Saturday，and arrives at Nantong at 19：25 and then takes off at 20：15，and finally arrives at Shenzhen at 22：15 . 35 Yiwu commodities to face a drop of export tax rebate

The June 22 news from Yiwu Municipal Bureau of State Taxation says that as from thi s July 1 ， the State ’s policy of export tax rebate for certain kinds of commodities will be adjusted . This policy adjustment involves 2831 commodities， about 37% of all the commodities li sted in customs tariff schedule， with the average reduction in export tax rebate rate being around 2% ， which will inevitably influence Yiwu’s foreign trade and export .

In Yiwu，the comprehensive export tax rebate rate will have a 2 . 9% drop from the former 1 2 . 5 4% to 9 . 6 4% after the adjustment， the biggest adjustment since 2000 . With the current exchange rate， the adjustment may result in the cost increase for export enterprises; the cost will raise 0 . 22 yuan for each dollar they export . This adjustment in export tax rebate rate involves 35 kinds of commodities out of the 38 Yiwu commodities with an export volume over 10 million US dollars . Al l these 3 5 kinds of commodities have a 2-8% drop in export tax rebate rate . The export volume for these 35 commodities represents 88 . 4% of total export volume.

The adjustment of export tax rebate policy wi ll have some impact on most of Yiwu’s export-orientedi ndustries except carpet， taps andl ace industries . The export tax rebate rate of garment，hosieries，underwear，zippers，toys，scarves，Christmas stuffs，cases andb ags，umbrella andpen manufacturing industries decrease 2% to average 11% . That of frames，tapes andplastic( including plastic film) industries decrease 6% to average 5% ，andf or jewelries ，cosmetics ，iron products( such as easy-openedpr oducts，stainless products) industries there will be a 8% decrease to average 5% .

The new policy of export tax rebate will take effect starting July 1 ，2007 . For specific items exported，the export date on the customs declaration( export tax rebate only)will be the date for execution，as is the case in Yiwu
